we're following a news alert out of northern virginia, ahe police officer rninvolved in a crash the motorcycle officer has just been pronounced dead. lauren is live at the scene at route 28. what happened? >> reporter: well, the application asking for prayers from the public, after the police officer was killed in the line of duty. as you said, it happened aroundd on00 p.m. this afternoon on 28no knoxville road, in bristol. br you can see it is still an active scene. the victim has been identifiedfi at 35-year-old officer chris young. he was with the principles william county police development for 7 years, and was assigned to the traffic unit.tr we have a photo from leesburg of the initial crash.in police itsay officer young was n his motorcycle this afternoon, responding to another crash.o he was traveling southso southbound when a minivan tried

to make a left turn into theth shopping center, and collided with him. officer young was transported tn the sphospital where he was lata pronounced dead. you can see the minivan and motorcycle were destroyed by the flames. no other injuries reported, however. i talked to the police spokesperson over the phone, she says the entire department isis distressed tonight. acting chief released a statement, stating the department is dealing with theth loss of a colleague, and friendr and asking for prayers anders thoughts again from the public. so again tonight, officer chris young dead at age 35. we 35don't know who was driving that minivan, but we are told no other injuries. route 28 is shut down -- so closed off in that area inin bristol. police are directing traffic, it looks like they are switching from investigating to clean upup

this is fox 5 news at 5:00. >> second of state hillary teclinton is spending had you -o is spending her new year's evey in the hospital.ta this after doctors found a bloo clot in her head.her >> reporter: hillary clinton ist the hospital after the discovery of a blood clot on sunday. doctors found the clot during a follow up exam for a concussion she sustained earlier thiss month. secretary clinton is underun observation at new york presbyterian hospital through hs tuesday where she is being treated with blood thinners. the state department releasing a statement, saying her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including otherng issues associated with a cona customer. they will determine if any further action is required. medical experts say the seriousness of a blood clot depends on where it is. >> with the previous head trauma, may make her at risk for developing a bleed in her head. because they are thinning out her blood. it is classic and a very smart

clot develop, and what are the risks? >> the blood clot develops in the veins, because of decreased flowing. it can be dehydration sometimesy that causes the blood to thicken up, it can be because of injury to the vessel wall, and there is a clot formation in the vessel.t >> what are the risks? >> the risks are very slight, but it's possible that you can have it -- major risk for thrombose, but in mrs. clinton's case, the combination of the infection, the dehydration withe the trauma to the, maybe shemayb fell on that right side of the head. >> is there any area where it is more dangerous to develop a blood clot? >> any this venus sinus can be dangerous, you can havee seizures, convulsions, focal

deficits, so it is possible that any damage to clotting can be a serious problem. however, in this case, there was no focal deficit. the person was normal except foc headache or other manifestations that we don't know, but the fact that you're doing well, it looks like all you need to do is be given blood thinner. she should be completely normal. >> and but here's the question, the concern i had. this is her second blood clot, o couple yearsod ago, she suffered one in her leg.eg the fact that it's happened again, is there, should there bd more of a concern now? >> well, the previous blood clot was in the oleg, and those are - they only go to the lungs, they don't go to the brain, but thet treatment is the same. the you do give the same anti coagulants. so in this case, this is the first time she had it in the

we managed into the lower 40s for highs, just, again, not much sunshine. waking up real early to see t the clouds came over quickly. 40 now, gaithersburg, 36, dulles 45, you get the idea. north and west it's colder. it will be cloudy all evening long, okay? and i'm not too word about anything falling from the sky. however, we did have a little bit of light rain trying to fall in places, probably only hitting the ground as sprinkles, and that was farther to the south for charles county. but we'll keep it cloudy. if there's a sprinkle or two, it shouldn't be a big deal. we bring in the new year, with i nice, it's going to be cloudy, temperatures will only be in the mid-30s, and as maureen pointed out, maybe the mostth important thing eis a light winh so we don't have to worry abouto that. . this looks very dramatic with a lot of rain and then snow to thn north aof us, but trust me, i think we're overdoing this. the computer is overdoing thisov
